Formula 1 2024: Tonight at the Bahrain International Circuit, the much-anticipated 2024 Formula 1 World Championship season will officially begin.

Tonight will mark the teams’ first official practice session on the circuit in 2024 after Bahrain Testing last week. In FP1 and FP2, the true covers will be revealed on the grids’ challengers.

Next up is Friday’s action, where the first grid of the season will be determined in an exciting Qualifying session for unknowns.

Teams take particular note of Bahrain’s notable variations in representative pace during the day and night, as the cars and time sheets become more vibrant as the sun sets.

There will be a change in the structure of both Round 1 and Round 2, from the regular timetable that F1 fans are used to.

Due to the parallel “Grand Prix Sunday,” the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will both take place on Saturdays (local time) instead of the customary “Grand Prix Sunday” in their respective countries.

In its twentieth year of competition, the event will consist of 57 laps over the 5.412-kilometer course.

The DRS zones from Turns 3 to 4 and along the start/finish straight will present the drivers with significant passing possibilities, while the third DRS zone from Turn 10 will propel them into the fast and frequently wind-influenced Turn 11.

This weekend, Pirelli has given the field the option to use the C1, C2, or C3 tyres to get them through all 15 turns.

Teams left a lot unsaid throughout the three days of testing, so Bahrain will be the first real demonstration of talent, speed, and competition in the on-track action.

Though their less-than-internal inquiry has caused quite a stir in recent weeks, Red Bull appears to be the team to beat this weekend and in fact this season based on the limited testing discoveries.

The garage of the current constructors champions, Mercedes and Ferrari apart, was beaming when Max Verstappen’s redesigned, zero-sidepod-sporting RB20 repeatedly topped the timing sheets last week.

Speaking of Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will lead the team into its final season at a track where they have won a record seven times, the most recent being a 1-2 triumph in 2022.

Verstappen is also no stranger to success at the Bahrain International Circuit, having won the season opener there last year after starting from pole position and defeating teammate Fernando Alonso by a solid 12 seconds. The three-time world champion will be looking to duplicate that accomplishment come checkered flag.

Despite this, Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in Bahrain under the floodlights, having won five races and sharing the record for most pole positions (three front-row starts) with Sebastian Vettel.
Verstappen is determined to lead another record-breaking season, and he appears primed to get off to a solid start in Formula One tonight. Action begins at 10:30 PM AEST.
